When I decided to start my own business, my goal was to offer a more personal service. One built on trust, quality, and genuine care for our customers. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and adapt with new technology. We’ve learned to install, maintain, and repair the latest heating systems while keeping that friendly, family-run approach at the heart of everything we do.

I’ve worked in the gas industry for over 40 years, covering everything from breakdowns and servicing to full heating system installations. I started out as an apprentice with Southern Gas, then spent time with various local contractors before spending 30 years working for Reading Council.
After retiring a few years ago, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to start a business alongside my son, Christian. Working with him lets me pass on my experience. These days, I focus on keeping the customers happy while he does the hard work, and I enjoy a nice cup of tea.

Those early days were all about learning the ropes, from understanding the ins and outs of gas systems to gaining hands-on experience that shaped the foundation of my career. It was a time of hard work, learning, and developing a real passion for the trade.
Now, joining the Mitchell & Son team feels like a full-circle moment. It’s great to be part of such a skilled and friendly group, and especially rewarding to be working alongside Christian and Simon once again. After many years in that world, the time felt right to bring my skills home and join the Mitchell & Son team. These days, I take care of a variety of office tasks, from keeping our website up to date to helping things run smoothly behind the scenes, all while fitting work around family life and giving Christian more time to focus on what he does best.
